Refine Your Nasal Contours

The nose is one of the face’s most distinguishing features. A well-formed nose can bring harmony and balance to the face, while a misshaped or damaged nose can be a source of discomfort and self-consciousness. People who are dissatisfied with the shape or size of their noses may want to consider nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, a corrective procedure that improves the shape and proportion of the nose. An experienced cosmetic surgeon, Dr. A.M. Yenikomshian provides outstanding rhinoplasty at his San Jose plastic surgery practice, customizing the procedure to his patients’ unique needs so that they can reach their precise aesthetic goals.

If you would like to learn more about how you might benefit from rhinoplasty, please contact The Center for Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery today.

What Is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that improves the nose’s appearance by modifying its size, width, profile, tip, and symmetry. While most patients undergo rhinoplasty for aesthetic purposes, many patients undergo the procedure due to breathing difficulties, as nose surgery can be performed to open the nasal passages or correct a deviated septum.

Many patients seek rhinoplasty because they want a solution for:

  • A nose that is disproportionate with the surrounding facial features
  • A wide nose
  • A crooked or asymmetrical nose
  • A bump on the nose
  • A bulbous tip
  • Pinched or flared nostrils
  • A misshaped nose due to injury
  • A nose defect that inhibits breathing

If you would like to improve the shape of your nose, or if you are having breathing problems, you might benefit from rhinoplasty.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

Prior to surgery, Dr. Yenikomshian personally consults with each patient to discuss his or her treatment goals, preexisting medical conditions, and previous surgeries. In planning their surgery, he also considers factors such as the severity of the problem, the nasal anatomy, and the surrounding facial features.

Rhinoplasty is an outpatient surgery performed under general anesthesia. To begin, Dr. Yenikomshian draws guidelines on the nose to mark where he will make any necessary incisions. Next, he administers the general anesthesia. He then makes tiny incisions in the nose, through which he removes or repositions cartilage. Finally, he closes the incisions and applies a splint to help the nose maintain its new shape. Patients who undergo septum surgery receive nasal packing, which is typically removed within a few days. The stitches and splint are usually removed one to two weeks after the procedure.

Dr. Yenikomshian may recommend other treatments to bring the nose into harmony with surrounding features. He offers otoplasty (ear surgery), mentoplasty (chin surgery), cheek implants, face lift surgery, eyelid surgery, and other options that be performed in conjunction with rhinoplasty at his Bay Area plastic surgery practice. Additionally, some patients choose to further enhance their appearance with BOTOX® Cosmetic, microdermabrasion, IPL® Photofacial™, and other skin treatment options.
