Breast Reduction

Improve Your Appearance, Comfort, and Quality of Life

Having disproportionately large and heavy breasts can cause a woman to experience considerable discomfort, including shoulder, neck, and back pain. In addition, larger breasts may attract attention away from a woman’s personality and cause her to feel self-conscious and uncomfortable with her body. To help larger-breasted women find relief from physical and emotional distress, Dr. A.M. Yenikomshian offers world-class breast reduction at his San Jose practice serving Los Gatos and the greater Bay Area.

If you are interested in learning more about breast reduction surgery, or you would like to schedule your initial consultation with Dr. Yenikomshian, we encourage you to contact The Center for Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery today.

What is breast reduction?

Breast reduction, clinically known as reduction mammaplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure designed to help women with naturally large breasts obtain relief from physical discomfort and emotional distress by bringing their breasts into improved proportion with the rest of their body. Not only can large, heavy breasts lead to neck, shoulder, and back pain, but physical complications may also include breathing problems and skeletal deformities. Additionally, disproportionately large breasts may keep a woman from comfortably engaging in sports or other active pursuits and finding clothing that fits properly. By artfully reshaping the breasts to better complement a woman’s physique, Dr. Yenikomshian is often able to help his patient enjoy a healthier, more active lifestyle.

It is important to note that the objective of breast reduction is simply to make the breasts smaller and not to rejuvenate their appearance or make them perkier, as is the case with breast lift surgery. While there are certainly aesthetic benefits associated with breast reduction, especially when it is performed by a master breast surgeon such as Dr. Yenikomshian, it is generally performed for medically necessary reasons. This is one reason why breast reduction is often covered, at least in part, by many health insurance plans, unlike breast augmentation and breast lift.

Breast reduction is also commonly performed as part of a post-bariatric surgery plan for patients who have lost massive amounts of weight.

The Breast Reduction Procedure

Because each woman’s breasts are unique, Dr. Yenikomshian personalizes the breast reduction procedure to each patient’s individual needs and goals. By tailoring the breast reduction procedure to each woman, he is able to ensure the best possible results and optimal patient satisfaction.

Dr. Yenikomshian performs the breast reduction procedure at a state-of-the-art, accredited Bay Area hospital near his San Jose plastic surgery practice. He begins the surgery by making an incision around the nipple. Another incision may be made below the breast and extend horizontally along the curve of the breast. These incisions allow Dr. Yenikomshian to strategically remove excess breast tissue and skin. He then reshapes the breast so that harmony and balance are restored to the patient’s figure.
